NAIDOC Trivia Team Winners show off their huge trophies!
As Australia marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week, the 2025 theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, holds deep significance for the Indigenous Consumer Assistance Network (ICAN) and the communities we serve. More than a commemoration, this year’s theme celebrates the power of young leaders, the clarity of community vision, and the lasting legacy of Elders who have shaped the journey toward justice and self-determination.
Earlier this month, ICAN staff came together to honour this milestone with a NAIDOC celebration led by our next generation of financial counsellors and capability workers. It was a day grounded in storytelling, creativity, and connection, echoing the national spirit of unity and cultural pride.
“The day was a good opportunity for all the teams to catch up and celebrate NAIDOC together,” said Financial Counsellor Alex Price-Busch. “Everyone shared stories about what this year’s NAIDOC theme meant to them and how they related it to their own life.”
From trivia and banner painting to creating photo-story canvases inspired by the theme, the event fostered both reflection and laughter. Each ICAN office received one of the canvases as a keepsake, capturing the unique stories and interpretations of Strength, Vision and Legacy from staff across the organisation.
ICAN Operations Manager, Jillian Williams, praised the initiative: “It was an amazing day. So much fun, energy and care for all. Massive shout out to the younger members of the team who led thoughtful and insightful yarns and kept us all in fits of laughter as always.”
As NAIDOC Week evolves into its next chapter—embracing independence and community-led direction—we’re proud to walk alongside a new generation of Indigenous professionals. Their strength, insight, and creativity not only inspire our organisation but ensure the legacy of our communities endures and grows.
“It was a great day, and I enjoy when we can all come together as a team and do fun activities,” added Financial Counsellor Anne-Marie Barron. “Thanks to all the organisers and artistic talents in the team.”
Together, we honour the past, celebrate the present, and look boldly toward a future led by the next generation.
