ICAN’s history has shaped an organisational culture of supporting the self-determination of Indigenous Australians, through the provision of accredited education, professional development, and employment opportunities. ICAN’s, Commbank sponsored Indigenous Financial Counselling Mentorship Program, which combines a diploma qualification with career advancement opportunities, has contributed to the employment of 50+ Indigenous Financial Counsellors across Australia.
The success of the Indigenous Financial Counselling Mentorship Program led to the development of ICAN Learn, our registered training organisation and social enterprise. ICAN Learn was registered in 2017 to build vocational education pathways for our staff (“Team”), the communities we serve (“Community”) and the national financial well-being sector (“Sector”) more broadly. Building the capacity of these three distinct groups is a crucial step for ICAN to:
- Develop career pathways within our organisation for Indigenous peoples and financial counsellors servicing Indigenous communities.
- Provide quality financial well-being services to Indigenous communities and employment/economic development programs.
- Develop career pathways throughout the financial well-being sector, prioritising the professionalisation of the national financial capability workforce.
